How to backup and restore LCC Node CDI configurations
Background
LCC configuration information and values are stored in the nodes
themselves. Normally this is a good thing, but what is the node is
damaged or the configuration is hopelessly messed up? In that case a
backup of the data is not only useful, it could be critical.
How It Works
Backup your initial Node's contents.
- At the bottom of the CDI window locate this row of options. Click
[Backup].
- A file selection option will open and offer you a generic name
such as config.02.01.57.00.00.1B.txt.
Feel free to use it as is, or change it to your own name such as
Factory-config.02.01.57.00.00.1B.txt
- Once you have chosen a suitable file name, then click on [Save].
Keep copies of your configurations as you make changes. They may be
used to clone a replacement node should the original node fail for
some reason. They may also be useful as a quick start over after some
configuration error causes issues.
Restore your Node to factory defaults or a previous version.
- At the bottom of the CDI window locate this row of options. Click
[Restore].
- Locate the backup file that you made when the Node was first
purchased. Highlight it and select [Open].
- This will load the CDI with the contents of the restore file.
- To load the new contents of the CDI into the Node itself Select
[Save changed]
Modifications
Clone your Node to a replacement node after a failure.
- At the bottom of the CDI window locate this row of options. Click
[Restore].
- Locate the backup file for the node that needs to be replaced.
Highlight it and select [Open].
- This will load the CDI with the contents of the original node.
- To load the new contents of the CDI into the replacement Node
itself Select [Save changed]
- This works because a [Restore] replaces all of the EventIDs in the
node with those in the file. However it does not change the Node ID
itself.
- Warning! If you repair the node
be sure to use all new EventIDs because you have duplicated them in
your system and they are no longer unique.
Oops! I didn't make a backup of my new board, is there any way to
fix that?

Warning!
Be sure that the node's firmware is at the
same version as the backup before doing this.
- Node [Restore] relies on the names of each entry in the CDI. Some
items in older versions have different names than the same items in
newer versions. These items will not be restored to their original
values because of the name mismatches.
- Newer versions of the CDI may also include new EventIDs that
didn't even exist in older versions.
- The best option is to always make a [Backup] immediately after
upgrading the CDI so that your backup file will have the proper
names for each item.
- If you are cloning a node that does not have a current backup file
you may need to edit some items manually to correct them.
